Matthew Phillips, MD

Dr. Matthew Phillips is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedics at The State University of New York at Buffalo. He is the Fellowship Director for the department’s fellowship in Lower Extremity Joint Replacement and Reconstruction as well as the Chief of Orthopaedics at Kaleida Health, Western New York’s largest Health Care System.

Dr. Phillips has 20 years of clinical experience in hip and knee replacement surgery, revision hip and knee replacement surgery, surgery for lower extremity deformity and arthritis, and orthopaedic trauma. He was involved in the development of computer navigated knee replacement surgery in the mid 1990’s and currently has the longest experience with knee navigation of any surgeon in the world.

He has numerous publications in the peer reviewed literature including publications on the treatment of infections related to joint replacement surgery. He has presented nationally and internationally. He has worked as a consultant for Stryker Orthopaedics for 19 years. He has been involved in the development and advancement of several of their joint reconstruction products and he has helped train hundreds of surgeons in the use of novel techniques and devices.
