Director of ResearchMary Canty received a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from the University of Buffalo. While a student, she was awarded the Western New York Prosperity Fellowship and received the Woman in Technology Award at InfoTech WNY’s 2017 Buffalo Emerging Technology Awards Showcase. Canty researched prevention of orthopedic implant infections and showed broad spectrum efficacy of electrical stimulation for infection control. Her passion is diving into human physiology, discovering and exploring the link between engineering and microbiology. She has published multiple peer-reviewed papers on the use of electrical stimulation for orthopedic infection control. When outside of the lab at Garwood, Mary can be found enjoying her time outdoors, skiing, sailing, and hiking. Spending her time outdoors helps her relax, focus, and recharge.
